So Why Rent a Bike on Tybee?

Did you know that Tybee Island is only 3 miles wide? For non-pro riders like ourselves, this sounds like a very bike-able distance without worrying about your legs turning into total mush. Like a lot of islands, Tybee is a very bike friendly community, and the city has laid out a convenient bike route path that takes you through slower-paced residential streets to avoid having to bike by the main highway.

This convenient bike route takes you all over the island, from the North End lighthouse and marine science center, down to the South End public pier & pavilion. Scenically, it also goes directly through both of Tybee’s beautiful public parks - Jaycee Park and Memorial Park. There is also ample shopping to do with Tybee’s local artist scene on the North by our well-known Hucapoos Pizza, or souvenir shops by the South’s pier.

As a more unique experience, our TIMS Bikes can also be ridden on the beach between the North and South ends, letting you cruise along our beautiful shoreline. Since you’re riding directly on the beach, tides do play a role, and you’ll want to plan for more lower tides where can find packed down sand.

While unfortunately our bikes cannot be ridden on McQueen’s Trail or to Fort Pulaski for safety reasons - these are considered off island and not safely accessible - there are plenty of sites to see around the main island to keep you busy!
